At approximately 10:15 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2015, the Bingham Canyon Mine experienced an isolated failure on one of the mine’s smaller southeast facing dumps. All material was retained on-site. A haul truck caught in the failure came to rest approximately 300 feet down the face of the dump. No employees were significantly injured: the operator of the truck was wearing a seat belt.
We have isolated the area and are working with the Mining Safety and Health Administration to investigate this incident. Safety remains our first priority. Operations in this area will resume in accordance with our safety standards and discussions with MSHA.
