Kennecott Charitable Foundation

The Kennecott Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Trustees whose aim is to provide support to local charities that assist children, veterans, senior citizens, and those struggling with homelessness, disabilities or low income in the communities adjacent to Kennecott’s operations.

The Foundation is made up of nine trustees from the greater Salt Lake Area and select Kennecott employees. Board members come from the southwestern part of the Salt Lake Valley, Magna, Copperton. It also includes representatives from the educational and religious communities.

Since 1992, the Foundation has donated more than $3 million dollars to local community charities.

The Rio Tinto Kennecott Visitor Experience did not open for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately the charitable foundation did not collect any fees for the 2020 season and therefore will not be administering annual grants this year. We understand that this comes at a difficult time for everyone as we all learn how to cope with the new normal and evaluate options for the future.
It is our hope to be able to re-open the visitor experience in 2021 season. Please watch this space for additional information regarding our reopening and future grant opportunities.
